Gratitude Builds Mental Strength and Willpower

Actor Laura Harring has starred in many award-winning films and worked with stars such as Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. With a diverse career spanning over 30 years, Laura Harring likes to share her wisdom and knowledge she learned from her social working days in India, and her extensive travel to unique cultures worldwide. Harring traveled the world a few times, sometimes backpacking and doing manual labor work. Laura Harring believes that when one expands their perception, to include other people’s beliefs and traditions, we become more tolerant, grateful and therefore happier and more able to perceive our own blessings, which brings us back to gratitude for the gift of life.

Strongly interested in the health of the mind, body, and spirit, Laura Harring is a firm believer in the power of gratitude. Gratitude increases mental strength. This increased mental strength and resilience, helps people overcome difficult times and avoid impulsive decisions. And research supports this.

A study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in 2003 showed a positive correlation between gratitude and resilience in the days following 9/11. Another study done in 2006 showed that grateful Vietnam veterans were better able to cope with post-traumatic stress.

A study conducted by Northeastern University showed that people who were grateful for the little things, were more patient and able to make better decisions. In this study, students had to choose between receiving a small sum of money now or a larger sum in the future. Results showed that students who expressed more gratitude in their daily lives, were more likely to wait for a larger reward. And that’s not all. The benefits of improved resilience and willpower, go beyond financial decision making. Stronger impulse can help with the discipline required to break bad habits and switch them out for good habits. Since discovering how helpful it is to people’s lives, Laura Harring started sharing gratitude and wisdom from her travels to the East and West on her social media pages.

The Power of Suggestion in Exerting Positive Transformation

Laura Harring is an established Hollywood actor whose work includes performances in movies such as John Q and Mulholland Drive. Mulholland Drive was recently voted The Best Movie of the 21st Century. With “healthy body, healthy mind” as a fundamental philosophy, Laura Harring places importance on the power of self healing in her daily life. Harring believes that what we say to ourselves on a daily basis matters, and that being kind to ourselves through our self chatter, makes a radical difference to our level of well being and happiness.

One aspect of exploring mind-body healing centers is the power of auto suggestion. Through this process, negative statements and thoughts are reframed in positive ways. For example, instead of focusing on blocked energy or a feeling of being emotionally closed or in the doldrums, this can be reframed by saying something like, “My energy is expanding and is being recalibrate right now." In this way, an expansion of this energy is made possible.

Another example could be a statement that indicates a readiness for more balance, acceptance, or whatever state is felt to be lacking. Employing neutral and positive language that is free from explicit or implied judgment to generate momentum toward moving beyond the present stasis. A shift in habitual ways of thinking toward the positive, effectively transforms a person’s approach to reality and creates growth opportunities. Laura Harring uses the age old simple statement “everyday in everyday I feel better and better,” or even “I can do this” seems to help to have peace and self love in a way that other people’s encouraging words can not. Harring believes in self sufficiency, as a great way to maintain well being and a deep profound happiness. Though very private, Laura Harring loves sharing her wisdom and encouraging others towards their goals. She does this through her social media pages.

Manage Stress by Developing a Positive Mindset

Known for her defining role in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, which was recently voted The Best Film of the 21st Century, Laura Harring has also starred in films such as Love in the Time of Cholera with Javier Bardem and John Q with Denzel Washington. Committed to incorporating healthy living within her daily routine, Laura Harring believes in the power of a positive mindset.

Research has shown that positive thinking boosts the ability to manage stress, which can significantly benefit one's health. Positive thinking does not mean you should ignore the reality of a difficult situation. Rather, it involves staying attuned to life’s possibilities, incorporating mindfulness and a focused awareness of the present. And remembering that we are much stronger than we think we are.

One of the foundational aspects of positive thinking involves paying attention to self-talk or the unspoken thoughts that run in a continuous stream in the brain. These thoughts can be positive or negative, and redirecting their flow in a way that is productive, rather than harmful can begin the process of reshaping other aspects of one’s existence.

An example of positive self-talk involves being encouraging and accommodating in your thoughts, and not allowing self-judgments that you wouldn't say aloud to others. Remain encouraging to ourselves and others creates a habit of positive thinking which directly affects our sense of well being and ultimately happiness. Check up on these thoughts throughout the day and find a positive spin if they seem to be moving in a negative direction.

Another aspect of positive thinking involves surrounding yourself with people who are supportive and in tune with your personal goals and needs. Being around like-minded friends, family, and associates can encourage a positive mindset and facilitate progress that would not be possible if you were alone. Having awareness is the key to begin on a positive mindset journey and when habitual negative thinking returns, to re-direct the mind in a positive direction. Eventually a new habit takes over, one of gratitude and happiness.

Laura Harring learned the secret of the power of the mind while she was a social worker in India at 17 years old. Harring has applied positive thinking to every aspect of her life and has been quoted saying “gratitude is everything to happiness."

Ways to Achieve a More Positive Mindset

A critically acclaimed actress whose film credits include The King, John Q, and Love in the Time of Cholera, Laura Harring also starred in one of the most admired films of recent years, Mulholland Drive. Mulholland Drive was recently voted The Best Film in the 21st Century in multiple polls. That was largely because of the breathtaking performance of Laura Harring.

Drawing on her own experiences in life, Laura Harring is a big believer in the power of a positive mindset. Cultivating a positive mindset can help ease everyday stress and enable you to handle challenges in a more productive way. One of the first steps to take to increase your level of positivity is to smile and laugh more often. Laughing is a physical and a mental release that releases natural endorphins into the bloodstream. Finding ways to serve others also has a significant impact on positivity. Donating your time, money, or support will help others and give you a greater sense of purpose and connection.

To create a better outlook on life, try to avoid negative people and surround yourself with those who are positive and supportive. You’ll be surprised how much better you feel when you regularly associate with people who have a positive mindset. The energy around us is contagious.

Another finding, is that balancing action with inaction and taking regular time for self care and quiet time, is good for the mind and therefore creates positive feelings.

How a Healthy Lifestyle Can Lead to a Happier Life

Laura Harring began her acting career with a starring role in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, a film that earned the title of The Best Film of the 21st Century in a 2016 BBC survey. Mulholland Drive won Best Movie of the 21st Century in multiple polls.

Outside of her work in movies, Laura Harring follows a healthy lifestyle in both mind and body, a pursuit which she believes contributes to a more positive outlook and happier life.

There is scientific research to back up this idea, as well. For example, what people eat can impact the way that their brain cells function, which also has an impact on one’s mood. One study showed that people who followed a Mediterranean diet, rich in whole foods and fatty acids, showed one-third fewer symptoms of depression compared to those who did not consume a diet of vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, and fish. Additionally, eating healthy, whole foods can lead to weight loss, which elevates mood and makes individuals feel more positively about their self-image.

Another way that a healthy lifestyle contributes to happiness is through the effects of exercise. Exercise has been shown to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, boost confidence levels, and help individuals get better sleep, all of which lead to a greater sense of contentment. Furthermore, incorporating group exercise activities can help people connect with others. Research shows that people who socialize and form friendships with their peers, express an overall higher level of happiness in their lives.

Through her travels Laura Harring learned that not only are diet and exercise important for happiness and health, but a positive mindset as well. A mindset she learned through numerous teachers during her travels, and a view which Laura Harring expresses and shares through her Social Media pages.

The Making of the Movie Drool

Laura Harring’s breakout role as the mysterious “Rita” in David Lynch’s atmospheric masterpiece Mulholland Drive brought her much critical acclaim. Compared and likened to glamorous stars of another era, Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner, Laura Harring carries the mystery that audiences love and the camera adores. Harring’s take on her femme fatale character has haunted audiences for over a decade and fans still talk about it in social media and chat rooms across the internet. Mulholland Drive was recently voted The Best Movie of the 21st Century in multiple polls.

Laura Harring won an Outfest Award as Outstanding Actress for her portrayal of an abused wife on the run in Nancy Kissam’s 2009 indie comedy Drool. Kissam was a first-time director when she helmed the movie, which she also wrote. The screenplay for the film had generated considerable buzz before shooting began and eventually won a Slamdance competition. Drool was shot in August while Louisiana was having a heat wave, the rented trailers had faulty air conditioners that didn’t work, therefore the actors were soaking wet because of the humidity and had no where to sit, making filming the movie intense. Drool went on to garner a couple of awards for the star of the movie, Laura Harring.

Winning “Best Cast” for A Family in Crisis: The Elian Gonzales Story

Laura Harring is a classically trained Hollywood actor who has taken on leading roles in acclaimed films, such as The King opposite Oscar winner William Hurt and David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, which was recently voted The Best Film of the 21st Century. Mulholland Drive is often called a masterpiece, thanks in part to Laura Harring’s strong presence in a character that does not apologize for her sensuality. The role won Laura Harring an Alma Award for Outstanding Actress and over the course of her career, Laura Harring has earned numerous awards, including another Alma Award for Best Cast in, A Family in Crisis: The Elian Gonzales Story. In the movie, Laura Harring portrays Marisleysis Gonzalez, Elian’s cousin and primary caregiver.

Based on true events, the television movie depicts the story of a Cuban boy who, at age 5, was the only survivor of a boat of refugees that sunk in a storm. Adrift in the ocean for two days, Elian survived by clutching a rubber inner tube. After the boy is placed in the temporary custody of a great uncle who lives in Miami, a battle erupts between him and the boy's father, a Cuban loyalist unaware of his former wife’s plans to defect.

Vowing never to allow the young boy to return to Cuba, the uncle petitioned for permanent custody of Elian. The film was lauded as an accurate portrayal of a challenging international situation.
